MUKHRIZ Mahathir has taken issue with a recent statement by Prime Minister Najib Razak over former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s alleged U-turn, calling Najib’s comments disgusting and desperate.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president said that Najib’s comments about Dr Mahathir’s obsession of saving his family legacy and making his son Mukhriz Mahathir prime minister was intentionally calculated to interfere with the course of justice.
“He knows very well that my defamation suit in Court against his press secretary, Tengku Sarifuddin, has already been fixed for trial on Thursday, a mere six days after his statement,” Mukhriz said.
“My suit against Sarifuddin is specifically to seek the Court’s determination whether similar words appearing in his impugned statements were defamatory in nature against me or otherwise.
“I find it very disappointing and utterly disgusting that a person holding the highest position of authority in Malaysia, can stoop so low as to take such desperate measures,” he said, adding that it was the clearest example of interference and exertion of unlawful pressure on the Court.
Mukhriz said he would take any legal steps necessary to defend himself.
On Friday, Najib launched his most scathing attack yet against his former boss Dr Mahathir, accusing the older man of stooping to anything to ensure his son becomes prime minister.
“He (Dr Mahathir) has no principles and will do anything – including allying with those he jailed, calling for foreign intervention in our sovereign democratic nation, sabotaging our economy and making 100 U-turns to manipulate people’s minds – just as a means to achieve his desired results.
“Anwar may fall for this, but I believe the nation will not. Because with only one Parliamentary seat, the Chairman of Pribumi cannot decide who becomes Prime Minister. It would be grossly undemocratic,” said Najib.
The prime minister said Dr Mahathir’s actions were motivated by selfish personal interest.
“He is obsessed with saving his family legacy and making his son Mukhriz Mahathir Prime Minister,” charged Najib. – June 9, 2017.
