FED up of running check-in counters without bag drop facilities, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes vented his frustration at Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), today.
“Honestly, I am really fed up with Malaysia Airports. They promised us bag drop in July. 30 machines. Zero, and now they say no budget!” he said on Facebook, adding images from KLIA2 to the post.
Fernandes said AirAsia Bhd CEO Aireen Omar initially offered to pay for the machines two years ago, but the national airport operator insisted on providing the facilities.
He also demanded MAHB stop behaving like a monopoly, in contrast praising the private Senai Airport operator, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, for doing a “fantastic” job and being a “hard working private entrepreneurial” operation.
Fernandes also praised regional airports in Singapore and Indonesia.
“We need more ‘Senai airports’ in Malaysia. Create more entrepreneurs. More economic activity,” he said.
“Hope the new (MAHB) chairman Syed Zainol Anwar Syed Putra Jamalullail and (MAHB chief strategy officer) Azli (Mohamed) will sort out the mess.”
Fernandes also said blamed the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) for failing to promote commercially viable, consumer-oriented and resilient civil aviation industry. – July 9, 2017.
