THE Selangor Legislative Assembly today notified the Election Commission that the Sungai Kandis state seat has become vacant, following the death of assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei.

Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the notice was hand-delivered by an officer about 1pm after a copy of the death certificate was received from Mat Shuhaimi’s family.

An EC spokesman said the commission will issue an official statement on the notification.

Mat Shuhaimi, 50, a former political secretary to former Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, died at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre yesterday of lymphona cancer. – Bernama, July 3, 2018.
