Facebook user 'Catt Ginger' nabbed for insulting Agong

A FACEBOOK user named “Catt Ginger” was arrested for allegedly insulting Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on social media recently.

According to the police, the 41-year-old female suspect from Sabah was arrested at her home in Kepong at 11.56pm yesterday. The Sabahan is an estate manager, said the police.

During the arrest, the Bukit Aman Cyber and Multimedia Crime Investigation unit confiscated a handphone, a laptop, a modem and two routers.

The owner of the Facebook account “Catt Ginger” had uploaded a photograph of the Agong with a pig’s snout.

The edited photo was uploaded on June 25, on the first day of Raya celebrations, with the caption “Selamat Hari Raya”.

The individual, however, uploaded a comment on his Facebook account on July 1 denying he had insulted Sultan Muhammad V and lodged a police report and another one with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Astro Awani reported today that four civil society groups and Umno Youth Gua Musang lodged five police reports against the Facebook user.

Led by Umno Youth Gua Musang chief Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad, the groups lodged the reports at the Gua Musang police station.

The other groups were Majlis Belis Jajahan Gua Musang, Majis Belia Felda, Persatuan Kebajikan Islam, Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Amal Jariah Islamiah SeMalaysia (Pekisa).

A day earlier, Perak Umno Youth and 12 organisations also lodged police reports in Ipoh against “Catt Ginger” at the Sg Senam police station. – July 5, 2017.
