THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission cannot act against Sarawak governor Taib Mahmud despite the allegations of corruption against him.

The agency’s chief, Mohd Shukri Abdull, said there were already 15 case files opened against Taib, but no action could be taken as he was not directly involved in the decision-making process.

“We have already opened 15 files on Taib. It is true he was involved in parts of the allegations.

“But the problem is that he did not make the decisions. According to the law, the person that sits for the meetings and makes decisions is guilty.

“There was not a case where he chaired the meeting or made decisions,” he said in a press conference today.

Shukri also said MACC has already submitted the investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, but no action could be taken on Taib yet.

“We have submitted to AGC. So far, there is no case. There is no way to implicate him until we have new information or witnesses.”

However, results of MACC’s investigations have never been revealed.

    • How about Sarawakians petition Claire Rewcastle-Brown and all the ADUNs and MPs wishing to be reelected to organise a Sherlock Holnes crowdsourcing effort to fill the gap between what the AGC needs and has on Taib Mahmud?

Have the AGC to pin it down for such cases -- examples of whistle-blows and whistle-blowers needed?

  • shukri .im sure MACC can find more witnesses ...so many cases implicating him with money trail everywhere...its already enough evidence to charge him.

  • Aiyah, is this an excuse? Can't they prosecute him to find it out? Do you mean a professional thief can be excused just on the basis that he did not make the decision himself? But he is implicated. If you can investigate Najib, why can't he? Something is wrong here. The rakyat cannot accept what you said.

  • Explain his wealth, must billionaire who during tenure in government was on a low 70k ish salary?

Must have found that 'pot of gold' at the end of the rainbow if not due to corruption which is the more likely case!

    The amazing 'untouchable' Taib!

Like Najib, many unexplained murders to answer for in Sarawak (Bruno Manser) and in Canada (Ross Boyert)...

  • Tun is playing Mahjong now on Taib. With huge money transferred, don't tell me there is no evidence, not even one? Seems like there is a political power play here after Taib visited Tun.

  • To quote Tun's statement: Do you think Malaysians are stupid?

  • There has been numerous documentaries by foreign media showing how Taib and his family robbed Sarawakians of their customary land, including parallel contracts in Singapore to escape detection and taxes. How is it Tun M's administration, like the previous is seemingly not too keen to probe further?

    • Good question bro. If we look back many moons ago, Tun M & Pek Moh(Taib) are pals in BN. I guess Tun close one eye on this. Very sad indeed isn't it. Well, we cannot get our wishes all the time right! God the almighty will make him pay 100 x more

  • "Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in Indonesia last week that there had been NO REPORTS lodged against Taib.." ?? NO REPORTS, yet MACC has already 15 case files opened against Taib Mahmud ?? How can 15 cases files be open IF there is NO REPORTS ?? Think ..... Think?? something contradicting yes?! MACC cannot open a Case File unless they received a report, right? So 15 Cases Files may means 15 reports or more, yes??
