A DECISION may be made next week on the controversy surrounding DAP’s party election in December 2012, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

He said he would be meeting Registrar of Societies (ROS) director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah next week and “I hope he will have a written report for me.”

The issue flared up after some DAP members lodged complaints with the ROS following the party’s decision to amend election results some three weeks after the Dec 15 polls.

A member, Vincent Wu, who was initially declared to have secured sixth spot with 1,202 votes for a place in the central executive committee (CEC), was dropped to 26th place because the party said he had actually secured only 669 votes.

Zairil Khir Johari was instead elected to the CEC with 803 votes in 20th spot.

DAP had said the glitch was because of a tabulation error.

On July 30, 2013, the ROS directed DAP to hold fresh polls.

Zahid also said ROS had received a letter from DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng appealing to the ROS to declare the election legal.

He did not say when the letter was received.

“I have discussed it with Razin and we have not made a final decision on the DAP appeal.”

Asked if DAP could get deregistered, Zahid said there “are no indications to deregister or otherwise right now. ROS will make a professional decision.”

He said in the meantime, DAP should not make unfounded speculations on its future, like “Umno is trying to deregister DAP”. – July 3, 2017.
