SUHAKAM has asked the police officer investigating the disappearance of Amri Che Mat to acquire from the mobile service providers the location data on the missing activist’s wife Norhayati Ariffin and Special Branch officer Sgt Shamzaini Mohd Daud to determine their whereabouts on May 12.
Suhakam commissioner Mah Weng Kwai told Inspector Khor Yi Shuen, who was testifying at an inquiry into Amri’s disappearance, to find out which mobile service providers they were using.
“Check which telco they were using. This is assuming they had their phones on them,” he said.
Norhayati had told the panel that Shamzaini visited her at home in Kangar, Perlis, on May 12, to talk about Amri and Koh’s disappearance, but in a dramatic twist last month, Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy had showed Norhayati a police report filed by Shamzaini, denying everything she had told the panel in her testimony.
During the inquiry today, the lawyer representing Amri’s family, Nizam Bashir asked Khor if he had checked the locations of Norhayati and Shamzaini on May 12.
Nizam said the location data would show the whereabouts of the two and whether they were together during the time of the alleged meeting on May 12.
“They (telcos) would have the information for this for at least the last six months,” he said.
Khor told the panel police had yet to make the checks.
Mah also asked Khor to check the location data of one Saiful Bahari, the owner of a Vios car with registration number PFC1623.
The panel had heard that Saiful’s vehicle was seen near Amri’s house in the days leading to his disappearance.
Amri went missing on November 24, 2016. He is believed to have been abducted by a group of people who had driven up in and surrounded his car with their four-wheel-drive vehicles in Kg Padang Behor, Perlis.
Suhakam is conducting a public inquiry into the disappearance of Amri, Pastor Raymond Koh, Pastor Joshua Hilmy and Joshua’s wife, Ruth, to ascertain if they are cases of enforced disappearance. – July 2, 2018.
