FRUSTRATED over the lack of action on 1MDB here, Pakatan Harapan will embark on a nationwide tour to explain issues related to the state investor.

The 1Malaysia Development Berhad tour will end with a gathering in September, opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told reporters in her office at Parliament today.

The opposition parties, she said, will explain the 1MDB saga to voters following the move by the US Department of Justice to seize assets worth US$540 million (RM2.3 billion), allegedly bought using money siphoned off the state fund.

Dr Wan Azizah said the two-month long roadshow will begin on July 6 at Dewan JKKK Penaga in Kepala Batas at 9pm.

“The roadshow will be held in every state and it will end with a people’s rally in September.”

Representatives from all opposition parties were present today, except those from Islamist party, PAS. Parti Warisan Sabah agreed with resolutions from today’s meeting.

Dr Wan Azizah also called on all opposition parties to set aside their differences and work together to bring those involved in the 1MDB scandal to justice.

“We reiterate our demand that the prime minister call an emergency parliament sitting and we urge him to table a white paper on 1MDB,” she said.

She added that opposition MPs would also lodge reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara as well as urging other relevant agencies, such as Attorney-General’s Chambers and police to reopen their investigation into 1MDB.

On the rally in September, Dr Wan Azizah, who is Permatang Pauh MP, said it would be a “peaceful gathering” and that they have applied for the necessary police permits. – June 28, 2017.

  • Great! This nationwide tour would definitely be more productive than arguing and fighting about who is going to be PM for Pakatan.

Go deep into the rural Malay heartlands. They must be well informed about the 1MDB scandal. If Pakatan loses in the GE because the 1MDB scandal has failed to move the rural voters, it would only mean that Pakatan has not done enough work on the ground.
