THE Human Resources Ministry has appointed five members to sit on the governance oversight committee oversee management of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).

Minister M. Kulasegaran said the committee was given the mandate to assist the HRDF board of directors.

“It is tasked with reviewing all aspects of the board governance framework and ensuring it functions in an effective and efficient manner to support the operations of HRDF.

“They have been given a free hand to review the issues raised,” he said at Wisma HRDF in Kuala Lumpur, today.

The committee will consist of former Miti secretary-general Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, debt recovery professional Fiona Soh, litigator Fahri Azzat, accountant S. Dhamodaran and veteran journalist R. Nadeswaran.

The committee was formed following allegations that RM300 million of HRDF’s funds was misappropriated.

Kulasegaran said the HRDF CEO’s resignation has been accepted.

CM Vignaesvaran resigned last week and has been replaced by deputy chief executive Lim Kah Cheng.

“We want to look at the findings of the committee and see what they recommend (before moving forward),” said Kulasegaran.

“In line with the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, we hope they will complete the task in 100 days.”

Complaints that RM300 million was missing were first raised by Bagan assemblyman M. Satees and Seberang Prai Municipal Councillor David Marshal who file a police report.

SG Education Group chief executive officer Ganes had also submitted evidence backing the charges to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Kula said 15 members were appointed to the board, 40% of whom were new members.

He said that at the AGM, the board had suggested a change of auditors .

“The appointment for new auditors has been deferred. The board will look for new auditors which will be appointed soon.”  – June 28, 2018.
