THE Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) will look into the arrest of lawyer Siti Kasim yesterday, to determine whether police had followed standard operating procedures.

EAIC chairman A. Aziz A. Rahim, in a statement, said it views with grave concern allegations of police impropriety and the misuse of power in pursuing Siti’s arrest.

“EAIC will look into the matter… whether there is any truth to the allegations of police impropriety in carrying out their duties and functions.

“This is in line with the provision in Section 28 of the EAIC 2009 (Act 700), whereby the commission may commence its own investigation since the matter is of significant interest to the public.”

Siti was detained at the Kajang police headquarters at 12.40am yesterday for allegedly obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties, following a police report lodged by a woman claiming that the lawyer had kidnapped her 24-year-old daughter.
