THE operator of one of Sabah’s iconic landmarks, 1Borneo Hypermall, owes some RM9.3 million in electricity bills.

According to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) Asset Management general manager Mohd Yaakob Jaafar today, power to the mall will be disconnected if the dues are not settled by tomorrow, a time the mall operator has agreed to settle their bills.

He said the operator had been given ample time and numerous notices for close to a year to settle the dues, the amount of which will hit RM9.3 million tomorrow.

“If they still refuse to pay their RM9.3 million electricity bill tomorrow, we will disconnect the supply on Wednesday,” he said.

SESB said they had also informed the management to inform its tenants and clients about the expected power cut, which was in accordance with the Electricity Supply Act 1990.

The present operator of the mall is 1Borneo Management Corporation.

Opened in 2008, the 1Borneo Lifestyle Hypermall was built by Sagajuta (Sabah) Sdn Bhd and operated until it wound up on June 2016.

Former prime minister Najib Razak’s second son, Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, was also a one-time director and chairman of Sagajuta, but resigned from the post in May 2012. – June 25, 2018.
