UMNO should not have problems funding its activities as it has assets worth billions of ringgit, said party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
The Kelantan prince and Umno presidential said revenue raised through these assets was sufficient to fund party activities at all levels.
The Gua Musang MP said it was unusual for the party headquarters to tell divisions to look for their own funds after Barisan Nasional, of which Umno is a lynchpin party, lost Putrajaya.
“Umno has assets including in prime areas all over the country.
“We have our own offices in the states and divisions that are now strategically located, as these were acquired way back in the 1960s and 70s.
“If we manage these properties and assets well, we should have enough funds to run our activities,” he was quoted as saying by Star online during a meeting organised by the Negri Sembilan Umno liaison committee today.
The 81-year-old veteran leader said this while answering a question from the floor as to why the party had issued a letter to all divisions directing them to seek their own funds. – June 25, 2018.
