ANWAR Ibrahim is in stable condition after a health scare last night, in which he could not move and had to be rushed to hospital, said his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The deputy prime minister said Anwar was attended to by doctors and kept under close monitoring throughout the night.

“The doctors saw him. He is better. I saw him before I came here. He is better. Continue with your prayers and support,” Wan Azizah said at the Selangor state-level Hari Raya open house in Shah Alam.

“I think he is going to recover soon and continue his endeavours,” said the Pandan lawmaker.

Anwar’s family confirmed he was admitted to hospital last night for a severe prolapsed disc injury.

In a statement, the family said doctors at University Malaya Medical Centre were monitoring his condition closely.

The statement said doctors advised the family to decline visitor requests while the de facto PKR leader undergoes the necessary treatment and observation.

Anwar was rushed to hospital last night after finding himself unable to move upon his return from Turkey.

His daughter, Nurul Izzah, had told The Malaysian Insight his condition was “serious”.

Anwar, who was released from prison some six weeks ago, had just returned from Turkey at 5pm yesterday and was rushed to hospital at 10pm.

He had been suffering from chronic back problems. In November last year, he underwent surgery on his shoulder. – June 24, 2018.
