A third of Umno divisional votes tabulated

ONLY one-third of the 191 divisional votes in the Umno wings’ elections has been tabulated as at 9pm, said party executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusof.

“While the elections have gone on smoothly, there are five divisions still meeting tonight,” he said in a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre.

He expects 60% of the divisional votes to be confirmed by midnight.

As at 9pm, Pahang Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah was leading the Youth chief race with 14 divisional votes (1,422 individual votes), while Shahril Hamdan was leading the deputy Youth chief race with 19 divisional votes (2,274).

Azizah Mohd Dun was leading the Wanita chief race with 19 divisional votes (4,208), while Norliza Abdul Rahim was leading the deputy Wanita chief race with 19 divisional votes (4,394).

In the contest for the top Puteri post, Zahida Zairil Khan was the clear leader, securing 54 divisional votes (3,685). Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi received just 36 divisional votes (2,387).

The Umno polls see a mix of delegate voting and the electoral college system.

Rauf confirmed that 74 Umno division chiefs have won uncontested, as well as 108 division Wanita chiefs.

Similarly, 85 Youth and 126 Puteri chiefs have won uncontested at the divisional level. – June 23, 2018.
