Exposes were done on instructions of PM, Guan Eng tells Anwar

FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng today shot back at Anwar Ibrahim saying all financial scandals he had revealed were on the instructions of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Lim was commenting on a Anwar’s interview with Astro Awani earlier today where the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader had suggested that the finance minister leave all expose of scandals and abuses to the respective ministries and agencies.

Anwar had said that Lim should instead focus on pacifying and instilling confidence in investors.

Lim in a statement, however, said this has been explained to Anwar previously that the revelation of financial scandals involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and other scandals was done on the instruction of the prime minister.

“I am not the prime minister, nor do I have the power to instruct other ministers to reveal financial scandals that fall within the ambit of the Finance Ministry.

“It is not my place to instruct a minister to reveal financial scandals of the previous government which happened in the Finance Ministry which I am in charge of,” he said.

Lim said that Anwar had also been shocked by the extent which the previous administration’s financial wrongdoings such as falsifying statements, hiding financial statement files and marking specific files to be inaccessible to the auditor-general, had effected the economy.

“The rakyat has a right to know the true state of the country’s economy and financial status.

“The rakyat does not want a government that conceals or hides anymore,” he said in the statement.

“When I met with Datuk Seri Anwar, he too agreed. My ministry will continue to expose all financial scandals within the 100-day period, as instructed by the prime minister.

“We must be brave for the truth.”

Lim said the finance ministry’s plans to trim the national debt will not come at the expense of the budget deficit, which remains at 2.8% of the gross domestic product.

“It needs to be emphasised that the Federal government has succeeded in removing the goods and services tax (GST) and is paying out cost of living aid (known formerly as BR1M) without leading Malaysia into bankruptcy,” said Lim.

“I have met with many investors and fund managers from within the country and outside to explain the country’s financial policy,” he said.

Anwar’s comments about Lim comes in the light of ratings agency Moody’s report last week that the abolishment of GST, reintroduction of fuel subsidies and 1MDB’s rising debt level, might adversely affect Malaysia’s credit rating.

Foreign investors have been selling off stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia for a seventh straight week, while fund managers have been offloading Malaysian bonds. – June 19, 2018.

  • That's right Anwar. Tun Mahathir is the PM, not you though tou may be the so-called PM in-waiting. Anyway, if you are the PM or FM,I think many wrongdoings will be swept under the carpet just like under the previous corrupt PM and UMNO/BN regime. Isn't PH has a presibential council? Why can't your such comment be brought up in the presidential council meeting, instead of through the social media? What is your
motive and hidden agendas trying to meddling in the running of the Finance ministry under LGE?

  • Anwar really is no technocrat. Should stop pretending he is. He won the ideological war BUT its Mahathir that executed it. Anwar should learn he need to stick to what he is good at.

  • Currently En. Anwar has not much of a "locus standi" in govt matters, but has other important roles to play outside it. Persuasive, yes..

  • Inconsistency is typical of Anwar's problems. When Anwar takes over the premiership, you will see inconsistencies in all issues. Reasons being Anwar is a pleaser, not an executor. He is not determined and easily swayed by noises.

  • Some things may get a little worse before improving a lot. Ups and downs are to be expected in the interim. But Tun Mahathir had a knack for ensuring things do not deteriorate too much, like during his time as Premier when the EAEC struck East Asian countries in 1997. And so we must be patient and endure for a while..

  • Anwar is looking for trouble !!!. Real trouble!!! The more he talk he is exposing his utmost stupidity and also reaffirming the suspicions of Najib "desperate crucial phone call to him on the Election Night". Looks like he is trying to play down Najib's crime and hoping to gag up PH to save Najib. The old devious and malicious intent of Umno DNAs has never been lost in Anwar and all his hue and cries about being unfairly prosecuted politically only makes a mockery and utterly disbelieving that he is really suffering while in jail. His superb showing of grand health immediately upon release and never even a whimper about his back and shoulder pain are now seen as an annoyance of ridicule to all the supporters who believe with full empathy on his mistreatment. Anwar is still the old Anwar and will never change. The rakayat are watching and any more further nonsensical antics from Anwar will result in a very quick reverse sentiments of disgust and hate which will cost him his Primiership to be. Wake up Anwar , stop all the imature and childish deployment in political posturing. Start growing up to be a real leader as we are waiting to see you act and become one that we can be proud off after years of waiting or WE SHALL REQUEST FOR A CHANGE. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Is he trying to force the resignation of LGE using the same "trick" he did on Kadir Jasim? Then demanding the Finance portfolio be given to PKR so he can play "money politics" like before on Tun?

Posted 5 years ago by Malaysian First · Reply

    • As long as LGE is doing within the rule of law No any Anwar can displace of the current FM. As I have stated Anwar has to wake up. He is taking more than he can chew. The old fox will make a minced meat of him. Kadir Jasin is not a formidable adversary and LGE is from a party of winners and if LGE gets agitated by Anwar silly actions , only to go along with the old fox Anwar will be history. Anwar is living on false glory after his release ashis support level from his own PKR party is wanning.

  • DSA - don't step on the toes of the team and the rakyat that won GE14. Dr. M secured your royal pardon, but since you have tasted freedom, you have made some moves that lead the rakyat to question your intentions, integrity and suitability to be Dr.M's successor. The last thing we want is for New Malaysia to revert to the old!

Currently each countries is try to protect their own countries economy, but our MoF do something like Trump. Everyday show out but do nothing! What is your short term , Middle term and long term view?

    • I beg to differ with your view points. I am neither a supporter of PH or BN. Yes you are right but not totally as at this critical period as stinking shits still needs to be cleared inorder for new reforms and new begining to take place. It is just only over a month after the elections and there is no sure way or miracles to hype up the economy just by mere saying or a snap of the fingers. Economy revival after a disasterous governance by the last incompetent regime doing not just a severe damages but a collossal mass destruction of the country financial strength which are still ongoing on being unearthed inorder for formulation and deploying of an effective long term plans. Do not just harp on issues is a pedestrian mentality manners as ususally seen in UmnoBN mercenaries cyber trooper. Helps not and damge not but more of stupid annoyance and blatant display of intellect deficiency.
