IJOK assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad has lodged a police report denying allegations that he was involved in the misappropriation of education loans.

Earlier tipped to be Selangor’s new menteri besar, he also questioned the timing of the allegations, as they came as his name was being tipped to replace Azmin Ali.

Idris told a press conference this morning that he had been accused of misappropriating funds from the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) meant for students at Vision College, where he is a member of the board of directors.

“I was made to understand that these allegations have been made via social media. This is the work of a liar and coward,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

He said the message had been spread on social media from yesterday, and that he had lodged his police report at the Kota Damansara police station.

Idris said he had already cleared himself with the college’s management which said it had “no problems or offences linked to PTPTN and the Higher Education Ministry”.

He said his role on the college board was to give periodic advice on medical matters and that he held no management position there.

The PKR elected rep also said he was financially secure and did not need to commit graft for more money.

“This house alone is worth about RM8 million. Why should I take PTPTN money?” he told the press conference.

Idris’ name had been submitted by the Pakatan Harapan leadership to the sultan of Selangor as one of three possible candidates for the Selangor menteri besar post.
