SUNGAI Tua assemblyman Amirudin Shari is the new Selangor menteri besar, succeeding Azmin Ali.

Attired in traditional baju Melayu, the 38-year-old arrived at 8.20am at Istana Alam Shah in Klang, where he would be sworn in at 11am today before the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

In the previous term, Amirudin was state exco for youth development, sport, cultural and entrepreneurship development.

The Johor-born social science graduate from Universiti Putra Malaysia is also Selangor PKR secretary. He has been a close associate of Azmin’s since PKR’s formation in 1998.

He was first elected as Sungai Tua assemblymen in the 2008 election.

The media are gathered at the palace where they await the swearing-in ceremony, which will be  attended by Selangor’s elected state and federal representatives.

There had been speculation that Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad would succeed Azmin, who is now Economic Affairs Minister in the new federal government following Pakatan Harapan’s win in GE14.

Another name tipped to be menteri besar was PKR vice-president Shaharuddin Badaruddin. – June 19, 2018.

  • Good choice. Amirudin is very charismatic as compared to the other candidates. In politics, charisma is important. This man has a pleasant look. He has also proven to be a capable exco member and DUN. The Sultan has made the right decision to pick him as MB.
