AMANAH is no longer the little PAS splinter party in Pakatan Harapan it was perceived to be before the general election.

Its president Mohamad Sabu is Defence Minister, one of the most senior positions in the cabinet. Deputy president Salahuddin Ayub is Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister.

More Amanah leaders are expected to be appointed to the cabinet after Hari Raya.

Since Pakatan Harapan won the general election en route to Putrajaya, Amanah has gained more attention, popularity, and members,

“Now we have over 100,000 members. After the election, many more are approaching Amanah nationwide,” Mohamad told reporters at his open house at his home in Kampung Guar Petai, today.

The popular former PAS deputy president better known as Mat Sabu said the thousands of guests at his open house included Umno and PAS members as well as his neighbours and villagers and old friends, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and his father Lim Kit Siang, the Iskandar Puteri MP and DAP veteran.

“This means that after the election, people have accepted us. They want to join us in building a new Malaysia.

“They didn’t come to talk politics today, but to say hello and exchange festive greetings. Some are from Umno and PAS.

“But I am sure there will be some positive changes in the future,” he said.

Mohamad laughed when asked if some of those interested in joining Amanah were from the “old party”.

“Yes. We will make announcements from time to time.

“If they are regular party members, we can just take them in. If they are in leadership positions, then we have to talk first.”

Mohamad said he had heard that some leaders in other parties were also interested in Amanah.

“We have to wait and see. But this shows that Amanah is a party with a very good future, especially after the elections.”

  • Frankly, not enough.. PAS claim to have over 1m members. Amanah need at least 500,000 to really challenge PAS.
