FGV chairman, CEO to know fate today, says report

PUTRAJAYA is expected to announce a resolution to the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd boardroom tussle and the fate of its top officials today, Berita Harian reported today.

Citing sources, the government-linked newspaper the government is expected to announce the fates of FGV chairman Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and suspended CEP Zakaria Arshad this evening.

A meeting is expected to be held in Putrajaya today to discuss the issue, including reviewing the independent report prepared by government appointed mediator Idris Jala.

The source said the meeting is expected to include Prime Minister Najib Razak.

According to the paper, the source was responding to rumours that Isa would be dropped today to enable a reshuffle of FGV.

Isa told Berita Harian that he was not aware of the rumours while Zakaria said he was ready for any decisions the government will make on the matter.

Meanwhile, Felda chairman Shahrir Samad said there should be a leadership change in FGV, the Star Online reported last night.

Shahrir, however, did not confirm if he meant Isa.

“Just wait for an important announcement from the special shareholder on this matter,” said Shahrir.

FGV is 34% owned by Felda while the Ministry of Finance holds a “golden” share to enable the government to make major decisions.

“We also hope that our Felda representatives will be appointed into FGV, similar to what had happened in the past,” he added.

Shahrir was speaking to reporters after presenting aid to residents at Pangsapuri Desa Melayu in Johor Bahru last night. – June 19, 2011
