BIG or small, different organisations and businesses are donating to Tabung Harapan Malaysia, which has collected more than RM60 million as of today.

Developer Seri Pajam Development Sdn Bhd and the Cameron Highlands Taxi Drivers’ Association are the latest organisations to donate to the fund, contributing RM2 million and RM1,500 respectively.

Their contributions were announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke in a press conference at the ministry today.

Loke received the cheques on behalf of the government, which established the fund in response to donation campaigns by Malaysians to ensure that funds were accounted for in a systematic and transparent manner.

“We are thankful to all donors. We thank corporations who have come forward to donate.

“The government also appreciates all contributions, big or small, from the people,” Loke said today.

The fund, launched on May 30, has collected RM61.31 million as of 3pm today.

Separately, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh also received donations from a group of traders and hawkers at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail market.

“On their own initiative, this traders’ association embarked on a donation drive for Tabung Harapan Malaysia, raising a total sum of RM12,350 in 10 days,” she said of the Persatuan Kebajikan Penjaja Dan Peniaga Kecil, Pasar Besar, Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

“It is indeed very moving to see ordinary Malaysians from all backgrounds bringing their resources together for the nation,” Yeoh said.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng previously said the Tabung Harapan Malaysia funds are solely for government debts.

The fund has received support from organisations, such as Malindo Air, which pledged to donate RM1 from the sale of every domestic flight ticket from June 1 until August 31.

Proton also pledged that RM10 from every vehicle sold between now and December 31 will go towards the fund.

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress also urged workers to donate, while the Council of Churches Malaysia called on churches to do likewise.

Furniture retailer Lorenzo has advertised in newspapers that 3% of every purchase will be donated to Tabung Harapan as part of a nine-day sale. – June 12, 2018.
