JOHOR Umno wants party vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to be the party No. 1.

Its deputy chairman Abdul Latiff Ahmad described him as the most suitable candidate for the post.

He said Zahid’s readiness to carry out presidential duties during Umno’s darkest hours showed he was a great-spirited leader who was willing to shoulder heavy responsibilities.

“Regardless of how badly the party suffers, I see Ahmad Zahid as someone who does not abandon the party or become panicky; rather he has the wisdom to regulate and rebuild Umno prudently.

“Umno members should look at the realisation of a leader who is willing to take up this very heavy responsibility, and by right, they should give him their undivided support,” he said in a statement here today.

He said Umno needed a big-spirited leader who could revive and revolutionise the spirit of the party.

Meanwhile, Abdul Latiff, who is also a member of the Umno Supreme Council member, said the Johor division had decided it would not support multi-level posts including the posts of president and deputy president.

“We leave it to the grassroots to use their wisdom to make their own choice,” he said. – Bernama, June 12, 2018.
