THE list of proposed candidates for the Selangor menteri besar post has yet to be confirmed and thus, has not been submitted to the royal palace, said outgoing Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
Azmin, who had a meeting with Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today, said he will be submitting the list of candidates soon as the palace has fixed a deadline for the appointment of a new menteri besar.
“The names will be revealed in the near future and Tuanku (Sultan) has set the swearing-in ceremony on June 19,” said Azmin.
“We didn’t (discuss names today); discussions were focused on the development and administration of the state government,” he told reporters following his two-hour meeting at Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam.
Azmin said his meeting with the Sultan was held today as the newly-appointed Economic Affairs Minister will be away from tomorrow to perform the umrah (pilgrimage).
“Tomorrow, I will depart to perform the umrah, so because today is the final day of the state council meetings, I met with Tuanku to inform him of several decisions and policies that the state government is undertaking, especially with regards to the development of the people of Selangor, and the steps that will be carried out,” he said.
According to sources, some of the potential candidates being considered as Azmin’s replacement include Seri Setia state assemblyman and PKR vice-president Shaharuddin Badarudin, Sungai Tua state assemblyman Amiruddin Shari and Ijok state assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad. – June 5, 2018
