POLICE believed they have nabbed two suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in Sandakan around noon yesterday.
The two were nabbed near Masjid Jamek As-Sheikh Hasabollah in town.
The police are expected to release an official statement on the matter soon.
Footage of the arrest, which has since gone viral on social media yesterday, showed a team of policemen with firearms apprehending the suspects and securing the perimeter.
Elopura PPM Chan Tzun Hei in a statement said it was a joint operation involving Sandakan Police and Bukit Aman in an anti-terrorism operation.
“Glad that police is proactive and able to take action before any bad incident happens. Thanks to PDRM. Sandakan is safe now,” he said in a WhatsApp message around 6pm today. β June 16, 2017.
