Sister calls Singapore PM’s rebuttal 'dishonest and mischievous’

DR Lee Wei Ling has accused her older brother, Singapore prime minister Lee Hsien Loong, of mischief and dishonesty in his long rebuttal that showed her to be trying to cheat him of his rightful share in their father’s will.

Wei Ling said Hsien Loong “selectively” used quotes from her and took them out of context.

She said that a key point he had obscured was that Lee Kuan Yew’s final will of December 17,  2013, stated down the same terms as his will of August 19, 2011, and the demolition of his residence at 38, Oxley Road, as well as her right to live there, was included in both wills.

The wills state that the demolition may be held off as long as she lived in the house, which Wei Ling claims is what Hsien Loong is trying to deny her.

Lee Hsien Yang, the brother with whom Wei Ling released a joint statement professing loss of confidence in and fear of Hsien Loong, had earlier pointed out discrepancies between Hsien Loong’s statements in public and in private.

Hsien Yang said the prime minister’s statement to Parliament contradicted the statutory declaration he had made.

“It is wrong to lie to Parliament and it is wrong to lie under oath,” said Hsien Yang.

The prime minister had earlier released a 40-paragraph rebuttal to his siblings’ allegations of power abuse and ambitions to build a Lee dynasty by pushing his son into power, among others. Hsien Loong’s rebuttal was mostly centred on his “grave concerns” regarding the events surrounding the drawing up of their father’s last will and testament. – June 15, 2017.
