FORMER prime minister Najib Razak has withdrawn his defamation suit against PAS organs Harakah and Harakahdaily over reports on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

This is the third batch of lawsuits retracted by the defeated prime minister after Barisan Nasional lost the May 9 elections, Bernama reports.

On Monday, Najib withdrew a suit against DAP’s Damansara MP Tony Pua and owner of portal Media Rakyat, Chan Chee Kong, over a recording of Pua’s speech in which he accused Najib of misappropriating 1MDB funds.

Last week, Najib also withdrew a suit against former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik over remarks in a news portal article about 1MDB. Ling had also agreed to withdraw his counter-claim against Najib.

In the Harakah and Harakahdaily articles, Najib’s stepson Riza Aziz had been mentioned in connection with 1MDB.

All these suits had been filed in Najib’s personal capacity. – June 1, 2018
