Housewife's EPF savings will not incur more deductions, says Wan Azizah

THE proposed contribution to a Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings account for the housewife will not incur additional deductions from the husband’s salary, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also women and family development minister, said the monthly contribution of 2% of the husband’s salary to the housewife’s account would come from the 11% he was already contributing each month.

“We are not going to make any additional deduction, only taking from the 11%. Let’s give recognition to women,” she saidafter a visit to the Rumah Ehsan old folk’s home here today.

Dr Wan Azizah said the ministry officials would have a meeting with EPF CEO Shahril Ridza Ridzuan on Thursday to discuss the mechanics of the scheme.

EPF savings for housewives was on the Pakatan Harapan election manifesto. The government proposes to contribute RM50 a month to each housewife on top of the husband’s 2% salary contribution. – Bernama, May 29, 2018.
