Social media content creators told to stay out of KL sinkhole site

SOCIAL media content creators have been warned to stay away from the sinkhole site in Jalan Masjid India.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said he had deployed officers to the site to ensure remedial work  proceeded without interference.

“We don’t want the public visiting the sinkhole site to make TikTok content. Please stay away from the area,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

“The hole is about eight to 10 metres deep. The site is under police surveillance, and we urge people not to endanger themselves.”

On August 23, Indian tourist G. Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, was swallowed by a sinkhole that appeared at her feet.

A search launched the same day was called off nine days later after the government reviewed the reports the agencies involved in the operation.

On the landslide in Wangsa Maju, Rusdi said soil testing is under way before sheet piling is installed along the affected banks.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall has issued notices for 14 houses to be vacated,,” he added.

Heavy rain on August 22 caused part of a retaining wall in Taman Bunga Raya, near Wardieburn Camp, to collapse, leading to the evacuation of 52 residents from 17 terrace houses. – September 2, 2024.
