SHAMSUL Azri Abu Bakar, the Director-General of the Public-Private Partnership Unit, has been appointed chief secretary to the government, effective August 12.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Shamsul will be replacing Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali whose two-year contract expires on August 11.
The statement said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to the appointment.
Shamsul holds a business administration degree from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA and attended the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and the European Institute of Business Administration.
“The government extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali for all his services during his tenure as Chief Secretary to the Government.
“This appreciation is particularly for his efforts in strengthening the public service delivery system by introducing various reforms to ensure the national development agenda is successfully implemented,” the PMO said.
Zuki, 62, was first appointed as chief secretary on December 31, 2019. On August 11, 2022, he was reappointed on a contract basis for two years. – August 7, 2024.
