CHEGUBARD, whose real name is Badrul Hisham Shaharin, has been remanded for two days by the Putrajaya magistrate’s court to assist in investigations into his revelations of corruption involving a navy official.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted the order, which begins today and ends tomorrow.

Chegubard’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid, said police sought a four-day remand for his client, but the court only granted them two days.

“A four-day remand was applied for by the investigating officer, but after hearing arguments from both sides, the magistrate classified Badrul as an informant who should be given legal protection and cannot be subjected to criminal or civil action. The magistrate then granted a two-day remand,” he said at the court complex today.

Rafique said the Bersatu member was being probed under Section 203A of the Penal Code for giving false information, Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA) for wrongful communication, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

Badrul arrived at the court today around 9.15am and left at 11.30am with a police escort.

He was arrested yesterday at 3pm over his disclosures of corruption among navy officials. – July 29, 2024.
