A TOTAL of 1,671 police personnel were dismissed over the past decade, Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (Jips) director Azri Ahmad said. He also said that from 2014 to June this year, 15,546 officers faced various disciplinary actions.
He said 40,436 disciplinary inquiry and investigation papers were opened during this period. “In terms of compliance, approximately 10,000 to 20,000 police personnel are monitored and directly inspected periodically by the Compliance Branch of Jips.
“The focus is on frontline personnel who interact directly with the public to ensure they adhere to laws, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Any officer found engaging in misconduct will be dealt with accordingly. The basic principle is that more frequent inspections lead to higher levels of prevention,” he said in a Bernama report today.
Azri noted that last year, 19,352 personnel were investigated, with 1,396 found to have committed various misconducts. From January to June this year, 11,221 personnel were investigated, with 689 detected for various misconducts.
He added that the Jips Intelligence and Operations Branch, which functions as a detection and verification unit, has carried out thousands of operations and arrested 798 police officers for offences such as gambling, drugs, and inappropriate visits to entertainment centres.
Azri also mentioned that Jips had received and handled nearly 50,000 complaints and information over the last 10 years, particularly related to corruption, abuse of power, and misconduct. β July 25, 2024.
