Malaysia passport 12th most powerful in the world

THE Malaysian passport has been ranked 12th in the 2024 global passport index, dropping one spot from 11th last year.

The Henley Passport Index evaluated 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.

Malaysian passport holders can travel without a visa to 182 of those destinations.

The highest position the Malaysian passport ever attained was 8th in 2014.

Singapore kept the top post in the index. Its citizens enjoy visa-free travel to 195 destinations, making it the most powerful passport globally.

The index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association and reflects the current global landscape of visa-free travel.

Thailand and Indonesia are at 60th and 65th places, respectively, while Brunei is 19th.

The Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar are ranked 73rd, 86th, 88th, 90th, and 92nd, respectively.

Japan, which once held the top spot, is in second position, along with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The five countries provide their citizens with visa-free access to 192 destinations. – July 24, 2024.
