THREE people have been detained to assist in investigations into the case of a missing six-year-old girl.

Johor police chief M. Kumar said two men and a woman, aged between 28 and 55, were detained yesterday in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Baru.

Albertine Leo Jia Hui was reported missing in the same area on Saturday.

“We are investigating under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and abduction with the intention of confining the person,” Kumar said in a statement.

He urged the public to stop making speculations that could disrupt investigations.

“Please channel all information to the Johor police hotline at 019-2792 095 or the operations room at 07-221 2999,” he said.

Yesterday, the mother of the missing child appealed to the public not to spread false information about her daughter’s whereabouts as this could hinder search efforts.

Leo Qieo Xin, 37, said that since reports of her missing daughter went viral, false information and rumours have been posted on social media about her disappearance.

“Too much information and so-called sightings are being posted on social media. This will affect the police search for my daughter. So please stop spreading false information,” she said.

Albertine was reported missing during the Bon Odori Japanese festival at Eco Galleria.

She is about 120cm tall, has long hair and was last seen wearing shorts and a white T-shirt with a Mickey Mouse print. – July 23, 2024
