Projected Q2 growth of 5.8% will strengthen nation, says PM

MALAYSIA’S economic growth, projected at 5.8% in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, will enable the country to rise as a strong nation, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar said the government had promised better job opportunities, training, and technology transfers for the digital and energy transition.

“Malaysia has broken through the wall of uncertainty by registering an amazing 5.8% growth in Q2 2024, beyond all expectations and projections.

“I am confident that if we cooperate and focus on economic development, we will succeed,“ he said on X today.

Yesterday, the Statistics Department projected a 5.8% GDP growth for Malaysia in 2Q, up from 4.2% in the previous quarter, and the highest since the 7.4% recorded in the second quarter of 2022.

The official 2Q numbers will be announced on August 16. – July 20, 2024.
