THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has begun recording statements from nine individuals in its investigation into HRD Corp, following the irregularities revealed in the Auditor General’s Report 2/2024 and the Public Accounts Committee.
Berita Harian (BH) quoted sources saying the process of recording statements of the nine individuals was carried out in stages, starting today.
However, the identity of these individuals was not disclosed, but it is understood that some of them are HRD Corp staff.
Speaking to BH, the source also said that so far, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.
“For now, MACC is studying the documents taken from the two locations visited (HRD Corp and the Human Resources Ministry).
“MACC started recording the statements of the nine individuals today,” he said.
Meanwhile, a team of MACC investigators was seen again visiting the HRD Corp headquarters in Jalan Beringin near Bukit Damansara in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
The six MACC personnel arrived at the HRD Corp building at about 2.30pm, before leaving at 4.30pm.
BH, who was at the location, was told that their (the investigators’) visit to the HRD Corp office today was only to meet some officials there to get further clarification following the seizure of documents from the office yesterday.
An official who was contacted refused to comment further but said that no documents were taken today.
Yesterday, MACC investigating officers took documents from the HRD Corp office and Human Resources Ministry in Putrajaya.
They brought out three boxes of documents from the HRD Corp office, while at the Human Resources Ministry in Putrajaya, the investigating officer took several bags containing documents needed for the investigation.
MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim was reported to have said that investigators were present at the two locations to obtain documents for the investigation.
“The focus of the investigation is on the issue of corruption, abuse of power and malpractice under the MACC Act 2009,” he said.
Last Saturday, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya was reported to have said that his party has identified several individuals to assist the investigation regarding the HRD Corp issues as revealed in LKAN 2/2024.
He said the investigation team will also go to the Human Resources Ministry and HRD Corp to obtain related documents. – July 10, 2024
