THE issue of cyberbullying on social media platforms will be presented to the cabinet on Friday to find a solution, Bernama reports.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the prime minister had asked for the presentation, following the death of a TikTok influencer who allegedly committed suicide because of cyberbullying.
Her body was found in her home about 11am last Friday. She was 29 years old.
“We don’t just report what happened but take action, especially if we need to amend the law and address current weaknesses,” Fahmi said.
Fahmi visited the family yesterday.
He said most cyberbullies hide behind fake accounts, making them difficult to identify.
“One of the complaints which the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the Ministry of Communications have received from the police is that accounts involved in various abusive activities hide behind fake accounts, making it hard to identify the individuals who made the comments or were involved in scams,” he said.
Fahmi said the deceased influencer’s family has lodged a police report and that ministry has been in contact with TikTok. – July 8, 2024.
