PROTON Holdings Bhd has apologised for mislabeling Sabah and Sarawak during the launch of its first electric vehicle yesterday.
In a statement, the carmaker acknowledged the error in a launch presentation and said it deeply regretted the mistake.
“We deeply regret this mistake and understand the sensitivities it has stirred among our fellow Malaysians,” it said in its statement.
“Proton holds the unity and diversity of Malaysia in the highest regard, and we are committed to respecting and celebrating all states equally.
“We sincerely apologise for any misunderstanding caused and appreciate any feedback from the public,” it said.
Proton also assured it would take greater care in the future.
Yesterday, during the launch of the Proton e.Mas brand, observers noted the mistake in a slide showing Proton’s sales network for its EV business.
The East Malaysian states were incorrectly labelled, with Sabah and Sarawak swapping places.
This had attracted criticism on social media, with users slamming Proton for its failure to pay attention to details.

A user called Kai said this looked like a “small mistake but this clearly just shows how little respect ordinary Semenanjung people have for Sabah and Sarawak.” – June 13, 2024.
