THERE are some quarters in the peninsula, who are envious of the state’s economic success and were working to destabilise the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) according to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg.
He did not specifically say who these people are but did hint at political leaders.
Abang Johari said there are already people sent over to sow the seeds to destabilise the government.
“They are already coming. There are signs (they have come),” he said in his address at an event in Betong today
He warned GPS grassroots to be alert and a lookout for them.
Abang Jo said with projections showing the state’s revenue this year could be more than last year’s, there will be more people envious of the state and its economic success.
Last year Sarawak’s revenue was just over RM13 billion.
Abang Johari also said the envy could be seen in some of the state finance excos that attended the national finance meetings chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said at these meetings, Sarawak’s revenue was prominent in the charts showing how much each state made in the year.
“We can’t hide our revenue. It’s there for all to see.”
He said the state that came close to Sarawak’s 2023 revenue was Sabah at RM 6 billion.
Abang Johari even narrated that the Kedah Menteri Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor, once had even suggested that Sarawak pay zakat to Kedah, in light of the state’s healthy balances. – June 6, 2024
