FORMER deputy public prosecutor Fahmi Abd Moin will represent the parents of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, who are in police custody to aid in a murder investigation.

Fahmi said the family had hired him to represent the couple.

“I will be present at the end of the remand proceedings on Friday,” he told Berita Harian.

Zahari Mohd Reba, the grandfather of the autistic child, confirmed the appointment of Fahmi.

This was after the parents’ lawyer, Mahmud Abdul Jumaat withdrew from the case.

Mahmud of Tetuan Emir Mahmud & Co was hired  by the family after the couple was arrested last Friday.

Zayn Rayyan was found dead in Damansara Damai last December.

The case, which was previously classified as sudden death, was refiled as murder after police found evidence of foul play.

Zayn’s body was found more than 30 hours after he was reported missing on December 5.

A forensic examination found injuries to Zayn’s neck and body. Police believe he was murdered elsewhere before the body was dumped in a creek.

In January, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Shuhaily Zain said police had recorded the statements of more than 200 people in connection with the case. – June 5, 2024.
