THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has detained a former mayor in Johor on suspicion of accepting RM1 million as bribes.
Bernama, quoting a source, said the 63-year-old suspect was detained at the MACC office in Johor about 4pm yesterday.
“It is believed the suspect was detained for allegedly accepting bribes while he was mayor.
“He is believed to have received more than RM1 million from contractors as an inducement to approve projects from the local council,” the source said last night.
Johor MACC director Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
“The suspect will be charged in the Johor Baru court Sunday morning and is expected to face 12 charges,” he said. – June 2, 2024.
