POLICE are hunting down the people who leaked the CCTV footage showing national footballer Faisal Halim being attacked. The video has gone viral.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the authenticity of the video.

He said it is an offence to show video evidence of a case under investigation. Police have initiated a probe into the case under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Hussein said the offence of disclosing information obtained in the course of performing one’s duties or functions under any written law is punishable by up to a RM1 million fine or jail time of up to a year, or both.

For the offence of using network facilities to publish false news, the convicted party could be be fined a maximum RM50,000 or imprisoned for up to one year, or both.

Hussein said the offender could also be fined RM1,000 for each day the offence is continued after conviction.

He advised the public not to share the video out of respect for the victim and his family.

He said the police would take firm action against people sharing the video and disrupting the investigation. – May 24, 2024.
