Perlis MB's son, former political secretary to be charged tomorrow


The son of the Perlis menteri besar and his former political secretary will be charged in court tomorrow for allegedly submitting false claims amounting to RM600,000, Berita Harian reported.

The two of them will be charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

However, the case involving Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli is still being investigated by MACC.

On April 24, Shukri’s son was among six people remanded by MACC to assist in the investigation regarding the alleged falsification of documents involving false claims amounting to RM600,000.

A senior officer from the Perlis menteri besar’s office was also remanded.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 37, were detained to assist in the investigation related to the implementation of infrastructure development projects, such as repair and maintenance work, supplies and services, throughout Perlis since 2022.

On April 26, Shukri’s son and four others were released on bail upon the expiration of their remand period.

Four days later on April 30, MACC detained Shukri, to assist in an investigation under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 involving an abuse of power issue.

He was subsequently released on bail. – May 22, 2024.
