THE Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is set to be withdrawn after the pharmaceutical giant admitted it can cause a rare and potentially dangerous side effect.

In a report in the Telegraph (UK), it was reported that the application to withdraw the vaccine was made on March 5 and came into effect yesterday.

The vaccine can no longer be used in the European Union.

According to the report, similar applications would be made in the UK and other countries which approved the vaccine, also known as Vaxzervria.

AstraZeneca said the vaccine was no longer being manufactured or supplied and was replaced by updated vaccines.

These vaccines would be used to tackle new variants.

Vaxzervria had recently come under scrutiny over a rare side effect which allegedly caused blood clots. – May 8, 2024
