TO prevent the spread of misleading information to the public, Anwar Ibrahim said the government was prepared to brief the opposition on the state of the national economy.

The prime minister said the opposition often unfairly criticises the government and misleads the public, which he said has been apparent on the Kuala Kubu Baharu campaign trail.

“They even criticised the recent announcement of a 13% pay hike for civil servants.

“Maybe we should lecture them on the national economy so they would stop confusing the public with inaccurate information,” Anwar, who is also finance minister, said at the ministry’s monthly assembly.

Meanwhile, Anwar will be meeting with Petronas this week to discuss the national oil company’s joint project with Saudi Aramco at the Johor Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).

“There is a slight problem that requires a decision at the government level,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

In October, Anwar said Saudi Aramco was committed to expanding its PIC facility to include petrochemical and gas downstream activities, making it the largest oil and gas hub in South-East Asia.
