66 year-old man jailed for misusing king's picture


THE Kuala Kubu Baru magistrate’s court today sentenced a 66-year-old man to jail for a month and fined RM3,000 for misusing the King’s picture on a car he was driving.

P. Ramasamy, 66, was sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 before magistrate Siti Fatimah Talib.

Ramasamy is ordered to start his jail term from the date of his arrest on May 4 and a further 10 months’ jail if he fails to pay the fine.

On Saturday, two men were arrested to assist police investigations into using His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia pictures on a sports utility vehicle (SUV) during the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election campaign.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said a police report was lodged on Friday after the SUV was spotted with photos of the King and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan flags.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim also said the police had seized the green-coloured SUV allegedly used by the men in the case.

Both men, in their 60s, were remanded for three days pending investigations under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act. – May 6, 2024.
