INDIANS voters must vote wisely in the May 11 Kuala Kubu Baharu by-electio, MIC president SA Vigneswaran said.

He said the community must back the government and that now was not the time to show its anger.

“There’s still discontent at the government among the Indians. However, they must realise that if they switch their support in this by-election, it will still not affect the prime minister and state administration’s position,” he said last night in Putrajaya.

“So the voters must make the right choice by voting for Pakatan Harapan in the by-election.”

He said a Pakatan Harapan win with the backing of of the community will boost the Indian elected representatives in government, enabling them to ask for more funding and aid for the group.

“If the Indian community feels that the government is still not delivering on its promises, it can make the decision (to switch loyalties) in the next general election. The time is not now.”

The MIC president’s call comes amid rising unhappiness among the Indian community over the Anwar administration.

Among the issues that has has irked the community are the lack of a Tamil minister, following a cabinet reshuffle last December.

Perikatan Nasional is fielding Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting chief Khairul Azhari Saut for KKB. DAP’s Pang Sock Tao defend the seat for PH.

DAP has held the seat since 2013.

The May 11 by-election was triggered by the death of three-term assemblyman Lee Kiong Hiong of DAP.

In last year’s Selangor elections, Lee won the seat for Pakatan Harapan in a four-cornered fight with candidates from PN, Muda, and Parti Rakyat Malaysia. – April 27, 2024.
