ACCUSED gunman Hafizul Harawi claimed trial today to a charge of attempting to murder his wife Farah Isa at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on April 14.

He also denied a second charge of causing grievous hurt to Nur Hadith Zaini, 37, his wife’s bodyguard who took a hit from the bullets allegedly fired by Hafizul.

The charges were read before Sepang sessions judge Azrol Abdullah this morning.

Yesterday, Hafizul was accused of seven charges, including possession of a firearm, at the Kota Baru sessions court. He was charged with possessing bullets, firecrackers, and the MyKad of three others, as well as using a fake vehicle registration number. He pleaded not guilty.

In today’s proceedings, Hafizul was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code with attempted murder, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.

The second charge was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine or caning, or any two of them.

Judge Azrol rejected bail due to the gravity of the offences and fixed June 11 for case mention.

Hafizul was represented by Naim Mahmud while Selangor prosecution director Ku Hayati Ku Haron led the prosecution.

Ku Hayati said the accused poses a flight risk, citing his arrest in Kota Baru, Kelantan, and police findings indicating an attempted escape over the state border.

In the early morning incident on April 14, he allegedly fired two shots at his wife at the airport arrival hall but missed. One of the shots hit her bodyguard, who is in hospital. – April 25, 2024.
