THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should be allowed to investigate his son who was arrested along with five others today, said Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

They were arrested and remanded for two days for allegedly falsifying claims amounting to RM600,000 over government public works contracts.

Shukri, who is also the Perlis PAS commissioner, said he will not interfere and he leaves it to the MACC to probe his son.

The former educator said that the menteri besar’s office was notified of the detention.

Earlier, the Kangar magistrate court allowed his son and five others, including a senior state officer, to be remanded by the MACC for two days.

Those remanded are between the ages of 26 and 37, and they were being detained under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The penalty under Section 18, is a maximum of 20 years in prison and a minimum fine of RM10,000 or five times the value of the bribe.

Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Nasional deputy president Dr Mujahid Yusuf Rawa said people should not make any assumption on the matter until the MACC has completed its probe.

He said that the detention is an example that the unity government will not tolerate any form of corruption, including with persons who have links to VIPs. – April 24, 2024.
