THE Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will launch an investigation into the latest controversy surrounding a local shoe brand allegedly featuring the word “Allah” on its sole.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has urged all parties involved to provide explanations to Jakim, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue.

“I’ve instructed Jakim to call up the relevant quarters on Monday (April 8) to provide further explanation. Anyone with pertinent information is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities, including the police,” he said in a statement.

He also called for calm and urged the public to allow Jakim and other authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has demanded clarification from the local shoe company regarding the alleged design.

Akmal said it was important to verify facts before taking action and urged the company to address the issue promptly.

This controversy follows the recent KK Mart socks scandal, where socks bearing the word “Allah” led to public outcry and boycott calls.

This has resulted in targeted attacks on three KK Mart outlets. – 7 April, 2024.
