UMNO Youth chief Akmal Saleh has been released by police after they took down his statement at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters today.

The controversial politician earlier said on social media that he was arrested this morning but questioned the action as he was due to report to the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

“I was there for about two and a half hours. They took my statement and I gave the police my full cooperation.

“The entire process was done professionally,” he told reporters who were waiting outside the police station about 12.15pm.

A small crowd of Sabah Umno Youth leaders were also gathered at the station.

Earlier, a video posted on Facebook showed Akmal smiling as he was driven away by the cops. His parting words were, “no fear, no surrender”.

He said he had arrived in Kota Kinabalu to attend a programme in Beaufort later in the day.

“As soon as I arrived in KK, I was told that I had to give my statement and that it could not wait.

“I have given my statement and am ready to go to court, if necessary,” he added. – The Vibes, April 5, 2024
