MACC raids Tan Sri’s home over RM4.5 billion govt vehicle acquisition

THE residence of a businessman bearing the title “Tan Sri” was raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over bribery allegations in his company’s procurement and management of vehicles worth RM4.5 billion for the government.

In a report, Utusan Malaysia said MACC officers went to the businessman’s residence in the capital at about 10am yesterday.

The agency also raided three other companies belonging to the suspect to obtain documents as part of its investigation.

“The Tan Sri in question is the highest individual shareholder in the government vehicle supplier company.

“Following an investigation by the MACC, more than 100 private accounts and companies under its control were obtained by the MACC for further review, but no accounts were frozen,” a source said.

The Malay-language daily reported the MACC’s raid was part of an probe it started in July into the company that supplies and manages vehicles for the government.

MACC senior investigations director Hishamuddin Hashim when contacted confirmed news of the raid.

He said the investigation was conducted under section 17 of the MACC Act 2009. – January 20, 2024.
